With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, and most of us still spending a lot of our time at home, it’s time to figure out how to make the day special! We sat down with Valerie Cianci from Top It Off Designs (@topitoffdesigns) to get her tips on how to have a fun Valentine’s Day at home with the family.
BE THOUGHTFUL
First things first, Valerie points out that Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday this year. “This is great because it can be an all day adventure with your kids, starting off with a themed family breakfast.” She recommends heart-shaped waffles and pancakes. “Add strawberries on top for a pop of red and edible flowers for the finishing touch.”
LOVE IS IN THE AIR
Let’s go all out with decor this year! You can never go wrong with flowers. Valerie recommends you arrange the flowers in simple small bud vases on tables throughout your home. Additionally, she says to “add a fun touch with lip mylar balloons filled with helium in a few bunches. Your kids will go crazy for them!”
IT’S ALL IN THE DETAILS
For your meals, why not go full-on Valentine’s and use heart-shaped plates and placemats? Might as well add some rose napkin rings, too!
MAKE IT PERSONAL
Valerie notes that if you have young kids that are used to giving out Valentine’s cards to their friends at school, a really cute touch is to have a mailbox for each family member and let everyone make cards and cute notes for each other and leave them inside the mailboxes. Don’t forget to add their favorite treats!
Lastly, a fun activity is manual crafts with your kids. Make cards and paint pictures that you can give to each other in your mailboxes. The best touch is to include a candy board on the table while you’re all working hard on your crafts. Your kids will definitely have a sugar high but it’ll be a fun Valentine’s day that they’ll never forget!
